ROUND ROCK, IKEA TALK MONEY
ROUND ROCK TEXAS (statesman.com) – IKEA, a Swedish home furnishing retailer, came one step closer to making its third Texas store a reality when the City of Round Rock approved up to $5 million in sales tax incentives and property tax breaks for the IKEA Group. The company plans to open its 252,000 sq ft t store on 21 acres at the SE of Chandler Rd. and I-35 by spring 2007.
The development agreement with IKEA was approved by the Round Rock city council last week. Some highlights of the sales tax portion of the agreement state that Round Rock will make quarterly economic incentive payments to IKEA that equal 100% of the 1% general sales tax revenue from IKEA’s annual gross taxable sales. IKEA’s payments cannot exceed $5 million during the 7 year pact; the agreement ends at 7 years, even if IKEA has not collected $5 million. For IKEA’s part, the company must open a 252,000-sq ft retail store, including office, warehouse and restaurant space, no later than Dec. 31 of year 2008.
